ICYMI: New Guidelines for introducing peanuts into children's diets.

There has been a great deal of discussion about the increase of food allergies and the impact / diligence this has on a child's life. Recently, there has been talk about changes to the recommendations of introducing peanuts into an infants diets. Now, the American Academy of Peadiatrics' (AAP) recommendation is that high-risk infants as young as four months have peanuts introduced to their diets. This is in stark contrast to conventional wisdom requesting peanuts should be avoided until a child is at least three years of age.

As health educators,

  • How does this new expectation change how we work with parents and the nutritional information we provide?
  • How are you addressing instruction on food alergies and safety in your classrooms?
