Introduction

Hi!

My name is Becky Hirn and I am the technology specialist at the Lima City Schools ABLE/GED program. Last year I revamped our adult education orientation and piloted a mentoring/success coach program to keep in touch and motivate all students who enroll in our program. My professional opinion is that relationships in education are the key to success for students. Now that our program is integrating a career pathways aspect for our students, I feel I can utilize the relationships I’ve already built with students to help them navigate their own career/post-secondary path. One of the reasons I am taking this course is to better familiarize myself with the process of career advising and counseling to best serve our students. I hope to discover the best practices and tools that will make our focus on pathways effective, not only for our students but also for our program.

Hi Becky,
I am glad you have begun with the LINCS PD. You are correct, relationships are important for our students and it helps them build the connections to our program. But teachers and administrators also need relationships to stay engaged in the teaching / learning process. Often, we may feel as though we are in a silo with little time to build relationships. With that in mind, I invite you to join our LINCS special discussion that will happen around COABE. https://community.lincs.ed.gov/group/lincs-suggestion-box

I look forward to continued conversations with you.

Regards,
Kathy Tracey
