The Lancet Public Health -- New OER

Dear Health Literacy Colleagues:

The Lancet Public Health is a new online, open access journal.  According to the opening editorial, recent "lessons learned about the need to prioritise the part research can play in advancing public health and to underline the importance of the open availability of information and research findings for public health decision making" was the impetus for creating the journal. "As the recent examples of emerging public health threats amply show, reliable new knowledge can make the difference between life and death, for communities as well as for individuals."

In this premier issue (Vol 1, Issue 1!), a study by Atheendar Venkataramani and colleagues brings new evidence linking economic opportunity and health in the USA by looking at county-level economic opportunity and individual-level health of young adults, age 25-35 (a key age group in adult education).  "Policies seeking to expand economic opportunities might have important spillover effects on health."
