Learners as Teachers at Health Literacy conference!

Hi Everyone,

In May there is an annual Health Literacy conference at the Institute for Healthcare Advancement (IHA). This is the longest standing health literacy conference (It's on its 13th year!) and focuses on operational solutions to low health literacy. This conference traditionally attracts mostly health educators, public health professionals and clinical health care providers, but there are always some innovative presentations on teaching health literacy to the public, often in the context of adult literacy programs.

It is a fantastic conference, and this year there will be a session on Communicating Clearly with Low Literacy Patients: A Skills Workshop. This will feature a panel of adult learners and teachers, who will share their expertise with the health professionals. For years now, I have been working to "sell" the value of the expertise held by adult learners and teachers. There is so much that they can teach to health professionals of all kinds, so I consider this a breakthrough to be celebrated!

I would love to see a growing presence of adult educators at this conference, so I invite you to consider attending.
