Literacy Readers

Our LINCS Resource Collection includes a wonderful series of videos, ESL Literacy Readers, which I believe would also engage beginning ABE readers.  These readers might have been discussed earlier in a LINCS community, but they are worth reviewing once more. What do you think?

The resource link opens a page with two options: ESL Literacy Readers page and a Learner Page. The Readers page opens a collection of forty theme-based readers, along with an instructor guide to support literacy instructors to create comprehensive, theme-based lessons for adult ESL [and AB?] learners. "The themes were carefully chosen and are both of high interest to learners, and more importantly, relevant to their lives. Every effort was made to ensure the stories would authentically represent learners themselves as well as events and issues that a typical learner may experience."

The Learner Page opens the scripted videos at Levels A-G, which students can easily identify by the images that represent each theme.

I know that we are strongly motivated to provide instruction that integrates occupational skills with academic and life skills, and some of the videos address occupations. How might integrated/contextualized instruction be further addressed using this wonderful resource?

I invite you to browse through ESL Literacy Readers and share ideas here on their usefulness among your learners. Let's talk! Leecy
