Mentoring and other Teacher Induction Resources and Tools on LINCS

Hello colleagues, I am currently involved in mentoring several new teachers in my program. We are drawing upon the excellent teacher induction resources that are available on LINCS.

Did you know about the teacher induction materials on LINCS? Check out the Adult Education Teacher Induction Tool Kit where you will find links to a variety of helpful resources including implementation guides for mentors and instructional leaders, issue briefs on related topics, and descriptions and links to three of the relevant LINCS self-paced online courses:

  • Introduction to Teacher Effectiveness and Induction
  • Principles of Learning for Instructional Design
  • Motivating Adult Learners to Persist

Let us know if you have utilized any of these resources in your program. Since I am designing a mentoring program for the first time, I would personally be especially interested in hearing from those who have incorporated mentoring as a means to support new teachers. What has worked well for you?

Cheers, Susan Finn Miller

Thank you for sharing these excellent resources, Susan! I've just glanced through them so far, but I've already seen some really valuable information. I'm going to go through them in depth and share them with some of my teacher-training colleagues. I haven't done any formal teacher mentoring, but this winter I'm going to be working on a project to mentor volunteer coordinators to help strengthen their classroom teaching skills so that they can give effective feedback and guidance to volunteer ESL teachers. I'll make sure to share my experiences (and lessons learned of what works and what doesn't) with you.

I'm looking forward to learning from people with mentoring experience during this discussion. Should be interesting!
