More on Adult Charter Schools

Program Management Colleagues,

The U.S. Department of Education has been looking into adult charter schools. Yesterday I attended an inspiring Adult Schools Growth Forum at the Carlos Rosario International Adult Public Charter School's Sonia Gutierrez campus in Northeast D.C. The forum was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and by the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School. While it is difficult to know yet what will be the outcomes, especially with the change of administration, there were many commitments made to explore or expand the growth of adult schools, in particular adult public charter schools, and to encourage exploration of them in states that do not yet have authorization policy that supports them.  I was pleased to learn that at the COABE Conference in Orlando in 2017 there will be several adult public charter school presentations, and to learn about the Barbara Bush Foundation commitment to support adult charter schools.

You may recall that a little over a year ago we had a discussion on LINCS devoted to learning about adult public charter schools which you will find summarized here.

I believe that a report of the Adult Schools Growth Forum will be available soon and, when it is, I'll let you know.
