Multi-generational Approaches

We have in the past done literacy nights for families in our service area.  I recently came up with an idea that I thought would be fun, but I have a few worries about it.  I thought we could do a literacy night at a local nursing home to get multiple generations involved.  I've also thought that sound minded individuals in the nursing home could possibly be interested in tutoring others as an activity.

My worries are that:

a) Nursing homes are in fact homes where some individuals may not like children.

b) Residents may or may not have cultural prejudices.

What are your thoughts on this?  I think many residents would enjoy interacting with children and families.
