*NEW* EMPOWER Series Lessons

Hello All!

A couple of weeks ago there was a discussion about the EMPOWER Curriculum, I received an email with news about NEW lessons!  These lessons are available to supplement the published series and are intended to follow the lesson sequence in Using Benchmarks:  Fractions, Decimals, and Percents. (Click here to download a free sample.)

These lessons were among those piloted in NYC adult ed and alternative GED classes in 2012-2013. These lessons are part of a set of new lessons that are in alignment with the Career and College Readiness Standards. The new materials explicitly link mathematical properties with everyday number sense. For example, in supplementary lessons, EMPower authors incorporate negative numbers, connecting them to a number line visual. Students learn about exponents along with multiplication.

They expect the full set of new materials to be available for purchase in the late 2014.  There will be an announcement on the EMPOWER TERC website:  http://empower.terc.edu/

If you use these lessons (or any EMPOWER Lesson) please be sure to post about it here so we all can benefit from your experience.

Best,

Brooke Istas
