I strive to spend more time talking and questioning my Adult ELL students, especially in the first 2-3 class meetings when we are introducing ourselves. I can post questions on the whiteboard for us to have choices to answer. I cannot be so narrow minded, and just focus on working thru the curriculum. Everyone has a story to tell, and connections need to be developed for a better understanding of our immigrant populations.
