New TV Series To Highlight Adults with Intellectual Disabilities

Hi group users,

If you are a TV watcher, you probably have your favorite shows as I do.  One of my very favorite programs was "Life Goes On" that aired from 1989-1993.  Corky, one of the main characters, was a teenage boy with Down Syndrome.  Weekly, I could barely wait to find out what successes and challenges  Corky would experience on that episode.

On Sept.5th, a new documentary-style TV program focusing on the experiences of five young adults with intellectual disabilities will begin.  "The Special" follows five real-life housemates from Brighton, England over the course of four years beginning when they were between the ages of 19 and 23.

It covers the experience of everyday life, job hunting, social relationships, etc., between these childhood friends.

Thirteen episodes of the series will air back-to-back on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) on Sept. 7 starting at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Something to look forward to~!
