OCTAE Says Farewell to Assistant Secretary Brenda Dann-Messier

"After serving nearly five years as assistant secretary for career, technical, and adult education, Brenda Dann-Messier has concluded her tenure with the Department of Education. Having championed a blueprint for career and technical education and garnered enthusiastic support for prisoner re-entry initiatives, Dann-Messier—upon her departure—emphasized that “it is imperative that we develop and implement a national action plan to expand educational opportunities for the 36 million low-skilled adults in our nation so they can fully participate in our economy and reach their goals.” Dann-Messier wholeheartedly believes that the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education’s plan, which “proposes seven game-changing strategies that will enable low-skilled adults to acquire the foundation skills they need to succeed,” is a means to that end, and she called on state directors of adult education to “work together to make it happen.”  "

Brenda looks forward to spending more time with her family in New York City.

OCTAE bids her a very fond farewell and wishes her much success in the next chapters of her life.
