Onboarding and Evaluating New Teachers

Friends,

We are rapidly approaching the new academic year and this often means new teachers entering adult education programs. How do you onboard a new teacher? What training requirements do you have in place for new hire? And how will you evaluate both new and experienced teachers?

I invite you to review the resource Adult Educator Evaluation and Support Plan. We often discuss the need for clearly defined expectations for students in order for the student to reach their goals, but do we deliver these same expectations for educators? If so, does that happen during onboarding and is their an evaluation process during the year?

I am very interested in your thoughts on this topic and looking forward to your shared strategies.

Sincerely,
Kathy Tracey

Hi Kathy and all, As noted, this a well-timed topic. Some members may be familiar with the LINCS teacher induction materials. In my local program, we have drawn upon these resources to design a mentoring and support system for new teachers.  You'll find the teacher induction materials listed below at this link.

  • Teacher Induction and a Toolkit for Adult Educators
  • Leadership Guide for Teacher Induction
  • Teacher Induction Pathway
  • Conditions for Success in Teacher Induction
