Online Book Discussions for Professional Development

Friends,
I invite you to review Online Teacher Book Clubs: Promoting a Culture of Professional DevelopmentThe author, Cheryl Boes, introduces strategies for taking the traditional book discussion and move it to an online format to meet the demanding needs of busy teachers. Teacher Book Talks or Book Clubs have become a standard for giving teachers time to reflect on new ideas or strategies and build a stronger community in their program.

However, the idea of the traditional book discussion allowed teachers time to gather socially and take professionally. Have you ever implemented, or been a part of, a book discussion as a PD option? What did you think? What would you do differently? And what do you think of the online discussion as a way to accommodate the diverse schedules of your team?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Sincerely,
Kathy Tracey
