Personalization

We have been talking a lot about differentiation, which I have strongly supported. In fact, we have an excellent self-paced course in our LINCS learning portal, Differentiated Instruction and Lesson Planning. Before that, we talked a lot about individualization, both terms relating to approaches designed to get "the sage off of the stage." Now we have a relatively new kid on the block (2011?): personalization.  You are invited to explore the chart below.

What do you think of this concept as compared to the other two approaches we've been discussing in the last few years? Does the term "personalization" invite more reflection on how we can engage more adult learners?

I found it interesting that the chart has both differentiation and Individualization classified as "teacher centered." What are your thoughts? If you are an instructor, does it help you to redefine terms to better clarify best reading and writing practices to engage our adult learners? LeecyPersonalization Chart

Looks like Malcolm Knowles' idea of self directed learning. And as for the other two being teacher centered, I feel there is a range in each model from very teacher centered to very learner centered. Anyone want to talk about that?
