Professional Organization

I was wondering how many of you belong to Correctional Education Association (CEA)?  I was investigating their website today and saw there are some resources available.  Are you members of other professional organization?  If so, which ones and what has been the biggest benefit?

Good morning! I have been a member of CEA since 1998 when I started in correctional education in New Mexico. I would not be a member if I didn't think it was worth it. The access to other people and information has helped us here in WY develop a great educational program in our prisons! CEA is undergoing some changes and our goal is to be the best resource for correctional educators as we have been in the past. I would love to visit with you about CEA and the resources we could share.

I have been a member of the CEA for more than ten years now.  I am currently enrolled in my second course, Fundamentals of Correctional Education.  I highly recommend these graduate courses!

I am new to correctional education and I was not aware of the CEA and its courses to help teachers reach offenders.  Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

Rhonda

Hi Rhonda,

Welcome to the world of Corrections Education!  I've been teaching Literacy 1, 2 and ESL in a Boston Correctional Facility (minimum security) now for 4 years after teaching in public schools for well over 17 years.  I have to say I LOVE what I do now.  Its a very rewarding job and one I enjoying going to on a daily basis.  My students range in age from 19 - 65.  I teach women and men and I have learned quite a lot from them as they have from me.  I'm sure over time Rhonda you'll grow to love your job and wonder why you never

thought of working there right from the beginning.  Take care.  Oh, if you would like to email me - its llevasseur@scsdma.org
