Program helps students with disabilities gain competitive employment

A new program in Reno, Nevada is helping young adults with disabilities gain the skills they need to become competitively employed. The Washoe County School District in partnership with the State of Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation/Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation Education, held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the VOICE Program on Wednesday.

Vocational Opportunities for Inclusive Career Education or VOICE holds instruction for young adults who have graduated high school and are between the ages of 18 and 21.  There are 48 clients are currently enrolled in VOICE.

Monday through Friday clients work on skills that will better their chances of succeeding in the work force including helping them get jobs. building skill sets, and becoming better prepared adults.

The VOICE program has already successfully placed students in employment settings since it began in August.
