Resource Highlight: Literacy, Learning and Health

Hi Everyone,

This research report has been in the LINCS Health Literacy Resource Collection for a while, and I'd love to highlight it and ask for your thoughts.

Literacy, Learning and Health: Research Report

It details a comprehensive descriptive study, which examined the relationships between literacy, learning and health among adult learners in the United Kingdom. It looked at...

  • the literacy, numeracy and language demands placed on people in healthcare settings
  • how adult learners find health information
  • what difficulties they experience with this information, and
  • strategies they use to overcome these difficulties

The take-away is how the information they found could help adult education programs to improve health literacy among their learners. Although the study was done in the UK, many of the findings will be applicable to adult education and the health care system in the U.S. Especially in light of the findings from PIAAC, it would be interesting to look at what they found in this report and how it can help us here "across the pond"!

Please share your thoughts!
