In Illinios, our state has worked on Bridging Curriculums to help the adult literacy learner transition from adult ed to the higher education program.  If you would like to explore how our state connected adult education to the career clusters, check out this link. http://www.iccb.org/adulted.curriculum.manufacturing.html

This exceptional work was let by ICCB and people like Bevan Gibson, Sarah Goldammer, Linda Cox, Colleen Potter, Patricia Luehmann from the Southern Illinios Professional Develpment Center.

I hope this gives you some information on how Skills2Compete was applied at the state level.

The intention of my sharing the abouve resource was to demonstrate a model where we can bridget  adult literacy education, the knowledge of career clusters, and develop a curriculum resource that will help educators build the student's background knowledge as they make the transition from adult education into the skilled workforce.

There have been inquireis as to copyright and access. Please use the information found ont the link as appropriate for your programs and students.

Kathy-

Good morning!  Is the information on this link available for other states to use?  Is there any copy rights attached that prohibit ideas to be shared with my peers here in Idaho?  There is some really good material that we could use.

Respectfully,

The direct link to the Skills2Compete website is http://www.nationalskillscoalition.org/the-issues/skills2compete.html. I'm trying to reach a staff member of the National Skills Coalition to see if they want to respond.  But in the mean time, you may want to read their 2007 report on America's Forgotten Middle-Skill Jobs at http://www.nationalskillscoalition.org/assets/reports-/americasforgottenmiddleskilljobs_2007-11.pdf
