State Work-Study Innovations Can Help Low-Income Students Pay for College

 

Evidence suggests college students do better in school when they do not have to hold down jobs with long hours. However, many students cannot afford to not work since need-based financial aid has failed to keep pace with rising tuition and cost of living, according to a policy brief from The Working Poor Families Project. The brief examines the employment experiences of low-income adults in college and highlights promising state work-study programs that provide students with more meaningful work off campus and for higher pay.
