Student Health Care Narratives - What are Yours?

Hi, all,

Julie McKinney, the SME for the Health Literacy Community of Practice, has posted the following message on her CoP forum. I think the topic is a great one for discussion on this CoP as well, and she has invited me to post it to this list,as well, for our conversation.

Hi Everyone,

Do you have any stories about working with students to prepare them for signing up for --and using-- health insurance? If so, please tell us! We just passed the "deadline" for signing up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Many of the students in ABE and ESOL classes would have been faced with this task during the past year. Did you ever address this in your classes or programs?

I would like to have a thread about this in our community so we can support each other in this work. Also, if we can get some stories I would like us to share them at a multi-media event that is happening in May at the Health Literacy Conference, given by the Institute for Healthcare Advancement (IHA). If you have talked about this at all in your classes, please tell us about it!

Julie

So, what have you done to help prepare students for signing up and using health care insurance? Please use this thread here to share stories or to ask questions. Thanks.
