Survey on Knowledge and Skills of Teachers of Adults With Limited Literacy

Dear colleagues,

I would like to let you know about an exciting international project, EU-Speak, whose goal is to develop resources for teachers in European countries and the United States of adult immigrants who have limited education and literacy in their native language and are learning the language of their new country. The project team will develop a framework for the cross-national training and professional development of these teachers and an online workshop.

The first activity of the project is to learn from teachers the knowledge and skills that they require to work with this population of adults.

We are reaching out to you (teachers and others) who work with adult immigrants with limited education and literacy in their native language, to learn your thoughts and ideas on the knowledge and skills that you have and need to have and the areas in which you would like to know more.  This information will be invaluable as we move forward with our ideas for developing an online teacher development workshop.

We would like to ask you to take a few minutes out of your busy day to take our survey. It should take you about 15 minutes to complete. Can you please do this by Thursday, May 8?

You can access the survey using this link: https://test.ugr.es/limesurvey/index.php?sid=91389&newtest=Y&lang=en

The survey asks a series of questions in 5 different sections. You will rate your response from “not important” to “very important” in your work. There are also places where we hope you will tell us about your ideas.

From your answers, the EU-Speak partners will develop a framework for a new supra-national curriculum to support practitioners to enhance your knowledge and skills to work with this specific group of adult learners.

Although the survey is anonymous, I encourage you to complete the section that asks for your contact details. This way, you will be included in our database of interested parties, will receive information about future events and resources, and can be contacted later for other project activities.

Thank you for your participation and your contributions to this project and the field.

Note: You may receive a message that the survey resides on a "non-secure server." You can be assured that it is on a secure university server and can be completed without concerns. Many people have completed it without trouble or incident.
