Teacher Stories about Using Standards

Hi,

I came across a series of short videos that I would like to share with the LINCS Community.  These videos are from a special collection featured by Achieve the Core.  They express the experiences of several teachers who talk about how they are implementing the Common Core in their classrooms.  I would like to focus your attention on two of the six highlighted videos.  The two that I have in mind are the high school teachers.  If you scroll down the page at this link:  http://achievethecore.org/page/939/stories-of-success, you will locate Veeko Lucas and Ashley Bessicks.  Mr. Lucas is a teacher in Louisville, KY at the very same school district where I worked for 27 years, and Ashley Bessicks is a teacher in Washington, DC.  They share how they have integrated the standards into their lessons and describe what is currently working so well for them now.  Listen carefully to what they have to say.

Are you familiar with Achieve the Core?  You may want to bookmark this popular website and explore the tools that are available.  They are designed to help instructors implement the Common Core State Standards.  The resources are organized into content areas of English Language Arts/Literacy and Math and specific grade levels.  The valuable tools consist of lessons, assessment question, student writing samples, curricular resources and professional development.  A wealth of materials and “stuff” to help instructors with standards implementation is under each topic.  Is anyone using any of the Achieve material?  How has it helped you with your adult class?  How do you approach the integration of standards into your instruction?
