Teacher's Anecdotal Records

Hello Colleagues, Welcome to spring!

Do you take notes when observing learners? If so, what tool do you use to collect and organize your notes? How do you use these notes in your teaching? In this quick video https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/informal-assessment-strategies?utm_campaign=digest&utm_medium=email&utm_source=digest, math coach Audra McPhillips talks about how she takes notes as a means of ongoing assessment and to help plan her next moves in teaching. While walking around the classroom, she uses a clipboard with students' names and jots notes as she listens in on the students' problem-solving conversations.

A clipboard is a low tech tool that can be very useful. We could also use an ipad for the same purpose. What ideas can you share for how you are collecting and using anecdotal records?

Cheers, Susan
