Teaching math to nonreading and low level reading students

I teach basic math to students with a graded 0-3 math level,  Unfortunately many students have reading levels that correspond with their math levels.  What resources have you found helpful in teaching these students.  Many of the resources that I have encountered either have either to high a reading level or are too "kiddish" for adults.

Greetings,

We use the EMPower series as part of the LINCS Adult Numeracy Instruction Project (http://lincs.ed.gov/publications/pdf/LINCS_ANI_flyer.pdf).

This series was developed with teachers and students specifically for adults.  The reading level of materials varies, but the instructor manual has excellent guidance on how to make lessons easier and harder.

Hi misschristine,

Your question is one that I have been asked so many times, both for math and reading.  If you would please re-post your message to the Disabilities group, you may get additional responses from members who have experienced this same situation.

Thanks very much,
