Teaching Science When We Are Not Science Experts

Friends,

We often discuss STEM in the classroom and the importance of building science knowledge in order to prepare students for job skills in areas such as manufacturing (green jobs) technology, and even healthcare. Science is a core area of our classrooms, but often - we are not science experts. Bringing science to life and making connections so learners can build the knowledge they need to succeed can be challenging. I found this online resource, Hard to Teach Biology Concepts: A Framework to Deepen Student Understanding.  http://static.nsta.org/files/PB238Xweb.pdf, and I invite you to review the information. Do you find tools like this  useful? What resources do you use to prepare for hard to teach concepts?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this resource and to learn more about what you are using.

Sincerely,
Kathy Tracey
