Teaching Tutors/Teachers about Digital Literacy

I was preparing to deliver a LINCS "Reboot Your Digital Strategy" Training via webinar and came across this LOVELY online training module from Wales:

Except that all the examples and statistics are for WALES, I think this is a VERY accessible and easy to use training tool for tutors or other folks new to the idea of digital literacy.  I wonder if we could "borrow" their content and build something similar for the US? [I think it could use a left hand navigation bar, maybe...]

What are YOUR go-to sites/resources for familiarizing folks with the issues and solutions around digital literacy/access/fluency?

The LINCS learning portal has a course called Integrating Technology in the Adult Education Classroom. Here's the description:

The course is designed for instructors who are at the beginner/intermediate level of knowledge of technology tools and technology integration in the classroom. This course examines the whyhow, and what questions for integrating technology in the adult education classroom:

  • Why is technology important for instruction and learning?
  • How do you approach integrating technology?
  • What tools can you use to integrate technology?

And the LINCS Resource Collection has a resource titled Integrating Digital Literacy and Problem Solving into Instruction. These project-based lesson ideas for adult students improve their skills in using technology to solve problems and communicate with others, while increasing their digital literacy skills and access to technology. http://lincs.ed.gov/publications/pdf/digitalaccess-problemsolving.pdf

Another LINCS resource is the recording of the Reboot Your Digital Strategy! webinar. It's on the LINCSed YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao3BSpOx5KE.

Here are the description and presenters:

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) at the U.S. Department of Education are working together to encourage effective collaborations between libraries and federally funded adult education programs. The goal of this joint effort is to enhance the skills, employability, and quality of life of youths and adults with low skills.

IMLS and OCTAE hosted “Reboot Your Digital Strategy.” This webinar supports state and local level efforts to cross-train staff on digital literacy and builds awareness about national and regional Internet access expansion efforts.

The webinar features a welcome by Susan H. Hildreth, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services and a panel of representatives from the IMLS, OCTAE, and Everyone On. Learn how your library and adult education program can take advantage of national developments in digital literacy.
