Thinking Routines to Support Observation, Analysis and Questioning

Hello colleagues, I love this short video on the Project Zero website about the power of incorporating "thinking routines" into instruction. The recommendation in the video is to stick with one routine over a period of time to support learners to grow in their awareness of their own thinking and to develop habits for "observing, analyzing and questioning." The specific thinking routine modeled in the video is "See, Think, Wonder" = "What do you notice? What do you think is going on? What does it make you wonder?"

There are also a number of  other thinking routine protocols available on the site, including one a lot of us are familiar with "Think, Pair, Share." Each thinking routine also includes various sentence starters to support learners' conversations.

Can you imagine using the "See, Think, Wonder" routine with adult learners? What do you see as the benefits? Are there any other thinking routines on the site you might consider using? You are invited to share your thoughts and ideas.

Cheers, Susan Finn Miller
