Time to Celebrate: It's National Volunteer Week!

This week marks the 43rd anniversary of National Volunteer Week!  Many adult education programs operate in large part due to the kindness and dedication of their volunteers. Are you celebrating the contributions of your volunteers?  Share your stories with us or, for more information on how to get involved, check out National Volunteer Week activities going on around the country.

In recognition of my volunteer work with the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) and the National External Diploma Program (NEDP) tutoring adults to achieve their High School Equivalency (HSE) formerly known as the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) in Yonkers, NY for the Westchester Public Library System, I had the pleasure of being inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame - Class of 2017.  This honor recognized my efforts with adults and several other CBOs in the county and in New York City. The WLS carries the distinction of having two retirees in three years, a general educator, Class of 2014 and a special educator inducted into Westchester's Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.  Together, we have over 85 years of experience with children in the NYC public schools. "Once an educator, always an educator!"   Kudos to all the Volunteers who give of themselves to improve the quality of life for others.

Congratulations, Jeanie, on your induction into the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame!  It's great to know that you, and other educator colleagues, are continuing to serve your communities.  Keep up the great work!

Best,

Mike Cruse
