Top Tasks or Abilities

The other day I was asked, "What are the 4 or 5 key tech tasks or abilities students should know for basic entry level employabililty?"  And it got me thinking about all kinds of things.

The top 5 things I want people to know in my class are:

  1. how to turn the computer/tablet on,
  2. how to select an item (double click with mouse),
  3. how to open/close windows,
  4. how to type in a field or document, and
  5. how and why to use shift.

Thinking about "Basic Entry Jobs" though number 1 can be stricken from the list - when a worker goes in McDonald's the register is already on, not to mention I fenaggled 3 and 4 to really give me two skills each! So, what are your thoughts? Lowe's uses DOS primed machines that only do set tasks... some companies use talets...

I've not had a chance to compare my thoughts against tech assesments that are out there, but am interested to know your thoughts.

Oh, gosh, this is one of those "it depends" quesitons. However, I'm thinking that some higher level thinking skills are important -- the ability to scan a screen and read the possibilities so as not to be one of those hapless, helpless "show me how to..." people when the button with the label "click here to..." is right there.

Hi, I am looking for best practices and helpful tips to conduct a effective and yet entertaining Webinar.  Would anyone be willing to share their experiences?
