USDA seeking mentors to assist with vocational agricultural education project in Haiti

With funding from U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is managing a vocational agricultural education capacity building program in Haiti focused on reestablishing three vocational agricultural schools throughout the country.  The project is being implemented by a team of agricultural educators from the University of California-Davis.  The primary goal is to revitalize vocational agricultural education at agricultural middle schools or Ecoles Moyennes Agricoles (EMA) in Haiti through intensive training and mentorship of school faculty and administrators in experiential learning, curriculum development, and school administration and finance.  USDA is seeking mentors to assist with guiding students and teachers toward satisfying Student Agricultural Experiences learning. We are looking for mentors who are willing to travel and work in Dondon, Haiti for at least a 3-week period.  Some of the responsibilities include -

  •          Assist in developing and implementing administrative systems and procedures and performance indicators
  •          Model and help develop effective communications mechanisms and habits within the center
  •          Work with agricultural teachers to strengthen “hands-on” teaching, focusing on Vocational Skills and Competencies
  •          Assist in developing evaluations of center systems and personnel performance
  •          Assist in developing a center operational “Handbook” for the Vocational Agricultural Education project.
  •
  •
  • Please note that we do not expect mentors to accomplish all of these tasks within a three week period.
