Visible Lives: Oral Histories of the Disability Experience

Good Afternoon, Disabilities in Adult Education group members,

Visible Lives is an oral history project that works to both preserve and document a thematic history through personal recollections. This project collects stories of people who are living with a disability.  The New York Public Library trains community members to conduct these interviews. Access to the audio files is available here.  Transcripts are held at The Milstein Division and on the New York Public Library.

Has anyone ever used oral histories in their program, or classes?  How did you set these up for your learners?  What were the results like for your learners?  If you haven't ever used oral histories, would you be interested in doing them in the future?
