Visiting historical places virtually

Hello colleagues, Virtual field trips can make for wonderfully rich learning experiences. I just learned about the National Park Service's collection of lesson plans focused on teaching historical places. You can view the collection based on location, topic, or primary source.

Here are just a few of the 160 lessons that I would like to explore in my classroom:

  • Journey from Slavery to Statesman: The Home of Frederick Douglass
  • Building America's Industrial Revolution: The Boott Cotton Mills of Lowell, MA (My Irish ancestors worked in these mills.)
  • Ybor City: Cigar Capitol of the World
  • First Lady of the World: Eleanor Roosevelt at Val-Kill
  • The Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March: Shaking the Conscience of a Nation

This is an amazing collection of primary source documents and photos as well as detailed lesson plans.

Check it out and let us know what lessons you are interested in.
