The purpose of the Program Management Group is described in the welcome message from the group's homepage and is posted below:

"The group is a community of practice for administrators of adult basic, adult secondary, and/or adult English language learning programs to explore research and evidence-based practices, policies, and issues in program management and improvement.

Topics discussed include:
Promising program practices, models, and policies
Effective approaches for program improvement, instructional programming, staff development, data-driven decision-making, and program evaluation

Become more informed, get involved, and be inspired! Share your knowledge with the Program Management Group and help advance our field of practice."

Many new members have joined the group since the initial welcome message was posted.  Please respond to this discussion thread by introducing yourself and tell us why you joined the Program Management group and what you hope to learn here.

I hope you will share your professional knowledge and wisdom with your colleagues through this group and I look forward to hearing from you!

I am Sandy Newell and currently work with the Florida Division of Library and Information Services, Bureau of Library Development. Some of Florida's libraries run literacy programs directly and many partner with local community based programs and adult education programs. I am president of Volunteers for Adult Literacy in Florida and also am a member of the Community of Practice by ProLiteracy and the American Library Association which has developed a Library Literacy Action Agenda.  In my early career with libraries, I started and ran a volunteer literacy program.  I am very interested in program management--especially in today's world.  I am familiar with 50/50 Managment and other strategies for running an effective program.  I would like to hear best practices--especially in the use of technology to manage a program, how to use student stories to sell the program and anthing about programs run by libraries or in partnership with libraries.

I am looking forward to participating.

Happy New Year to all....

Hi Sandy,

It's great to 'meet' you. I work for the i-Pathways project. Several years ago, we began a partnership with the libraries in Illinios and worked collaboratviely with them to help connect adult learners with local libraries. On our  FB page, we recenly shared this article about how people value the library.

I can't reiterate enough how much I value our libraries and wish you the best of luck in programming for 2014.

Hi, my name is Susan Mansuetti and I joined this group because I recently became the program manager of a small literacy program in Western PA. I worked here as the family literacy coordinator for about 6 years and then left to work for the PA Department of Education for a while. I'm hoping to learn from the experiences of others and shre what I know as well. I'll admit that for several months, I have been a lurker on this as well as other groups, but I'm going to try harder to be a more active participant.

Hello everyone. My name is Paul Kim and I am with the USCIS Office of Citizenship. Prior to this, I was with the NYC Mayor's Office of Adult Education. I'm looking forward to the discussions in out group!

Paul

Just a quick hello to introduce myself to everyone,

My names Sharon, although I'm not a conventional teacher I do volunteer to teach basic computer literacy skills to silver surfers and people who through disability, can't get out and about. I started researching online learning to find out whats available.I also have an interest in becoming a qualified educational assessor. I enjoy evaluating online courses.

Hi,

I'm Kathy Houghton, Director of Program Services with Literacy New York (LNY)-- formerly Literacy Volunteers of New York State.  LNY supports a statewide network of volunteer literacy providers with 34 affiliates serving 54 counties of New York State.  LNY provides training curriculum, program design and management support, advocacy, resource development, and technical assistance to our group of hard working local offices.

We are a forward thinking organization-- especially considering we've been around since the 70's!-- always working to improve and stregthen programs in order to better serve our thousands of adult learners.  Our big project right now is creating an online learning platform that will house our Tutor Training, Program Staff training, and more.  I am interested in hearing what all of you are doing in your programs, especially around distance training, volunteer support, and data management.

Looking forward to the discussions!

Kathy
