What theories do you subscribe to that guide your teaching?

Colleagues,

I'd like to share an article reflecting by Lisa M. Baumgartner on Jack Mezirow's Theory of Transformative Learning  As it relates to our adult learners, they may face a 'disorienting dilemma' that causes a person to critically reflect on their current situation and assumptions about the world around them. These dilemmas lead to perspective transformation. When your teaching philosophy is guided by transformational learning, you guide students to reflect on their beliefs, feelings, and values and lead students toward an assessment of their beliefs.

Personally, as an instructor, I am use Mezirow's theories to guide my classroom approach. I invite you to review the article and then share your teaching philosophy. I'd love to learn more about what guides you.

Sincerely,
Kathy Tracey
