What Works: Some Prison Education Programs Can Reduce Recidivism

Colleagues,

Another study supports the conclusion that some prison education programs are effective, that they reduce recidivism. See a short article about this at http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/1744052 and the full report at  bja.gov/Publications/Rand-HowEffectiveIsCorrectionalEducation.pdf

This may not be news to those in this CoP; however, it is additional evidence to share with policy makers and the general public. Advocates for adult basic education need to take every opportunity to educate the public and policy makers in their communities and states about effective prison (and other) basic education models that have demonstrable positive outcomes for adults.
