WhatsApp lessons for today March 17

I have several WhatsApp groups, with a total of about 150 students. Today we started out learning the phrasal verb - "run out of". I had to go to the store and I showed a photo of the empty shelves. All the stores had run out of eggs, for example. Then because it's Saint Patrick's Day we studied The Gypsy Rover. I posted two videos of me singing it, one from 1980 and the other today. "Gypsy Rover" were the focus words for the pronunciation of g and v. And we had a lot of fun with the past tense. A lot of new people have joined because of the flu crisis. All in all it was a good WhatsApp class. WhatsApp will no doubt become a major learning tool or portal. I could continue but WhatsApp is ringing!

Thank you for sharing this! I know that a lot of ESL students use WhatsApp. I have used it mainly for communication in the past. I was thinking about best ways to use it given the shift to online with all of the school closures. My one concern was other students having access to other students' phone numbers. If I am not mistaken, when people are placed in groups, they can see each other's phone numbers. I was wondering if you had a work around for this or if you have experienced any issues with this. I think it a great tool, but I wanted to make sure students' privacy was protected.
