Women and science and math

Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, reminds us that March is Women's History month.  This year’s theme is as fitting as it is exciting: “Women Inspiring Innovation Through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).”  You can see the Secretary's statement at http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2013pres/03/20130304a.html

Among students in your programs, do you find that women enjoy science/math, or shy away from it?  Do you notice that some believe "they are just not good at math/science"?  Have you seen instances in which women have an aversion to science and math because of past experiences?  We'd be interested in what you are seeing and hearing.

This posting brought back memories of a childhood friend who has spent her career encouraging girls to enter careers in the science field. She's now working for an organization that provides professional development and evaluation services on science topics/projects. Just wanted to share...
