Workforce readiness assessment

Colleagues,

I am looking for an (ideally free or very low-cost) workforce readiness disgnostic assessment. This will be used with a wide range of ABE and ESOL/ESOL adult learners but does not need to lead to an an employer-recognized certificate. It will be used by teachers to help learners get job-ready. I wonder if you have a formative assessment that you like (or know of) that fits this description.

David,

I would recommend WorkKeys Assessments for your participants. Check it out at http://www.act.org/products/workforce-act-workkeys/?gclid=CKbjutbf_rMCFeiPPAodDTEA0g#.UGW0qI1lSIA

When I was the CTE Director for a school district I implemented WorkKeys as a work ready assessment for students. What is great about this is that it is nationally recognized and used by many industries. Many states and counties have integrated this into their positions as well.

Best of luck,

Mike

Thanks, Mike. I am familiar with WorkKeys, and have recommended it and also the National Career Readiness Credential to the organization that has made an inquiry about workforce assessments. I am hoping, however, through this inquiry to also unearth some good non--commercial workforce readiness assessments that adult educatioon teachers may be using and that they like.

Anyone know of any?

David,

I found a workforce assessment that appears to be developed by folks from US HHS for folks on TANF.  It may not be the sort of thing you are looking for but here is the link.  https://www.workforce3one.org/view/4011211445958570596/info

Best,

Hi Jon,

I hadn't seen this free, online work readiness assessment (OWRA) before; it's interesting and may be what I am looking for. Thanks for calling it to our attention. I have just listed it on the Adult Literacy Education Wiki in a new section I am developing on Workforce Readiness Assessments -- at http://wiki.literacytent.org/index.php/AleWorkforceDevelopment .

I wonder if anyone reading this has experience using the OWRA assessment and would like to comment on its usefulness and effectiveness. Although it is designed specifically for TANF recipients, I wonder if it is suitable for non-TANF populations, for example for immigant adults who are learning English while preparing for work. Anyone know?

You'll find information about the OWRA at https://peerta.acf.hhs.gov/tanftc/

I am still looking for other, ideally free or low-cost, workforce readiness assessments. Please reply here -- or to me privately -- if you know of one -- and especially if you have used it with students or clients.

Thanks,

David J. Rosen
