I came across this blog post Books About Incarceration for Teens and have read all the books listed! I've often used books by Walter Dean Meyers and was excited to see two of his books on this list. Over 55% of people reading YA Literature are over 18. So, why do we use it in our classroom? YA novels are often written in the first person with characters who have strong voices. They should not be confused with children's literature.. stories written at a specific reading level. YA are complex stories that are very well written.
What books would you add to your classroom? And How did you use them?
