Hello colleagues, Do you integrate project-based learning in your practice? If so, how do you evaluate projects? Do your projects require collaboration among students? What are some effective ways to assess how teams work together in collaborative projects?

Hello colleagues, Since fall classes are now underway, I would love to hear about projects you are planning to implement this semester. I heard about some amazing projects at a conference in Arizona last week. In one program, students and teachers started a community garden. In another, students organized to get the city to build a bus stop shelter to address a need the students were concerned about. I know some teachers engage students in conducting science experiments or doing research on an important historical event. I have involved students in creating digital stories about their personal lives and as a means to present poetry or the life of an important person in history.

Projects can be multifaceted, and, therefore, more complicated to assess. I have found it valuable to involve learners in determining the evaluation criteria before we begin any project.

What projects have you done in your class? How did you assess the students' work? What projects are on the horizon?
