The Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) website provides numerous publications and resources relating to college access and success for students and focus on underserved populations. Their policy priorities include access and success, affordability and finance, accountability and transparency, and critical communities and institutions.
One of their current initiatives includes Redefining Access for the 21st Century Student. Three resources in this area provide background information and offer policy and practice based recommendations for promoting college access and success. A recent documentary, Degrees of Hope: Redefining Access for the 21st Century Student, describes stories of five college students and discusses the barriers and challenges they faced in accessing college. Each student enters college through a “non-traditional path”: a first-generation student, a community college transfer student, a military/veteran, an online learner, and an adult learner. A viewing guide accompanies the documentary and provides strategies in using the documentary for facilitating discussion and developing solutions to promote college access and success. A companion report, Access to Attainment: An Access Agenda for 21st Century College Students, provides recommendations and offers a roadmap for aligning research, policy, and practice in college access and attainment.
