Two COABE Webinars on Reading and Culture

Be sure to register for one or both of the following COABE Webinars on reading development at http://www.coabe.org/pdwebinars1/

1. Paired Reading: Developing Critical Literacy, Cross Cultural Awareness and College and Career Readiness, Presented by Lori Howard: Wednesday, November 9th at 2pm EST

High-interest, paired readings help English learners, at any level, better develop their critical literacy and cross-cultural awareness while expanding their reading strategies--important elements of college and career readiness. In this webinar, participants explore the key steps in creating, preparing and teaching paired reading lessons.

Important note: This is an interactive webinar and has limited seating, which will go to the first 50 registrants. Once you register, you will receive handouts via email by the day prior to the webinar. To take full advantage of the interactive nature of this webinar, please print out the handouts, have them with you, and be ready to volunteer to participate.

2. Enhancing Reading Instruction for Adults Using the PIAAC Framework for Literacy, Presented by Amy Trawick: Wednesday, November 30th at 2pm EST

Come explore the conceptual and assessment tools that guided the international Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) literacy assessment and that can be used by practitioners to inform reading instruction. Participants will engage in hands-on activities and will leave with ideas for planning, finding reading materials, and structuring activities at different levels. Teachers of students at all reading levels are welcome, but teachers at the lower and intermediate levels may find the workshop especially beneficial.

Webinar space provided on first come, first serve basis.
