Engaging Business in the Education Pipeline

Judy and Robin, Thanks for the interesting comments about businesses and students with disabilities, sometimes I think we don't think about the business engagement in this particular area.  Nice to hear your comments.

So, I am going to add to the discussion board by asking how you evaluate the effectiveness of your business partnerships?

Thanks,

Lyn

Hi Lyn,

At this point in our process we need actual material, equipment and supplies, so success with our business partners can be easily measured in terms of contributions of any of the above. That type of engagement has had some success. We have some business that have given us guidance in terms of program design and as a result we have seen additional success in the instruction. We have also had business professionals visit and support the program by encouraging the students. Because the goal of the program is employment, any business connections we make are cultivated with placement assistance always in the mix. Our students have gained significant, probably measurable, if we decided to measure, confidence and ability to perceive themselves as potentially employed in a career. That has been probably one of the biggest results from having engaged the business community thus far.
