Richland College in collaboration with the Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving-Institution (AANAPISI) Program is hosting its annual two-day conference for institutions of higher education interested in improving success of minority and underserved student populations. The conference will be held on Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19, 2019 in Dallas, Texas.
This annual convening, entitled “Using Data to Effect Change,” provides an opportunity for educators to gather and discuss
- evaluation processes to improve and expand minority student programs and initiatives
- evidence-based program development
- effective research and data-mining techniques
- building capacity and collaborations among minority serving institutions to advance research that promotes equity for all students
CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Proposals are being accepted for workshops that focus on collecting and using data effectively, and presentations on evidence-based programs and initiatives. Graduate students are also eligible to submit a proposal for the graduate student poster session. SAVE THE DATE! Around two hundred educators from across the nation typically gather for the annual MSI Convening in Dallas where keynote speakers such as Dr. Tia Brown McNair, Vice President in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Student Success at Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) in Washington, DC (2018) and Dr. Mike Flores, the new Chancellor for the Alamo Colleges District in San Antonio (2017) have set the tone for two days of motivated, collaborative work. Plenary and breakout sessions are data-focused and discuss resources as well as programs and initiatives that impact student success. Past plenary speakers included Dr. Terrell Strayhorn, professor and founder and CEO of Do Good Work Educational Consulting, LLC, and Dr. Robert Teranishi, professor and co-director at the Institute for Immigration, Globalization, and Education at UCLA.
