Appreciation or Appropriation: Culturally Respectful Celebrations as Learning Experiences

Location
Live Zoom Event
-

Each holiday presents new learning opportunities for adult learners. Whether they be significant religious or historical holidays and cultural celebrations, or obscure recognition events, such as, "National Nothing Day” (Jan 16th). What is the role of educators to demonstrate to our students that cultural celebrations are an opportunity to learn and respect the groups being celebrated? During this session, we will define and discuss cultural appropriation—how to avoid it, and how to engage learners about history and culture in ways that aren’t exploitive or stereotypical.

Registration is required for this FREE Event.
