In honor of Veterans Day, we discussed the historical origins of the holiday and the role of military service in immigrant integration. Here are the discussion questions:

  • How do we honor and integrate immigrant wartime experiences while conveying the American values of service and sacrifice?
  • How are the values enumerated in the Declaration of Independence—Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness—demonstrated in our civics curriculum, especially when we study historic conflicts?
  • How can we use holidays, museums, parks, and memorials to encourage further student engagement with American history?
