Changing the Course of Family Literacy
Webinar: March 23, 2017, 1:00 p.m. ET
Family literacy continues to be a critical instructional approach for providing intergenerational programming within the context of the family. It is considered a poverty alleviation strategy, as well as a means to provide educational opportunities and supports to families that may not otherwise have access to education. However, funding for these programs has dwindled significantly.
The Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy at Penn State examined the status of family literacy funding through the lens of the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, resulting in the policy brief, Changing the Course of Family Literacy. Presenters will share the results from this project, including information about family literacy efforts in eleven states and the District of Columbia and data from a survey of local programs.
Learn more about family literacy funding, program elements and challenges, and policy recommendations. The webinar will conclude with a discussion of evaluation strategies.
Speakers: Carol Clymer, Blaire Willson Toso, and Beth Grinder
