Effective language acquisition rarely occurs in a vacuum. Approaches to language learning are typically rooted in cultural values and a society’s views on education. Digital literacy is not immune to this influence. If viewed as a new language, digital literacy is similarly affected by the cultural and social needs that learners bring to the classroom. On July 17 at 1:00 ET, join our guest presenter Sarah Haroon Sualehi, PhD Candidate at Texas A&M, to explore what English language instructors can do to understand students' social and cultural needs and bridge gaps between learners and content. Participants will gain a better understanding of learning approaches in communal versus individualistic cultures, explore how culture impacts digital literacy learning and gain strategies to effectively tailor support to learners from all backgrounds.
