The LESLLA 2017 Symposium Planning Team invites you to come to Portland, Oregon, for the premier conference on adult literacy & second language acquisition in the world. The annual international Low Educated Second Language and Literacy Acquisition (LESLLA) Symposium brings together researchers and teachers who share an interest in the development of second language skills by adult immigrants with little or no schooling prior to entering the country of entry. According to UNESCO, 1 in 5 adults throughout the world cannot read or write in any language. Due to geopolitical upheaval, many of these adults move to countries where they must learn to read and write for the first time while learning a second language. LESLLA researchers and teachers work with these adults to help them become literate and achieve their goals.
